- Mama’s Boy (Athens Classic)
- A staple of the Athenian’s diet, Mama’s Boy has been the most popular breakfast spot in this college town for years. Their blend of southern cooking and breakfast classics made for a line out the door every morning, causing the owners to open another location on the other side of town in addition to their downtown location. Known for their large square biscuits and raspberry jam, this breakfast joint is well worth the hype.
- Donderos’
- Nestled on the corner of Milledge Avenue and Cobb Street is Donderos’ Kitchen, a small cafe and bakery that is easily missed by passing traffic. Cups of coffee are served in thrift store mugs and every room of the house is turned into a dining room. Known for their egg scrambles, grit boats, and daily-baked pastries, Donderos’ provides a cozy, casual dining experience in a quaint pink house.
- Ike & Jane
- America may run on Dunkin, but Athens runs on Ike and Jane. This local restaurant provides a donut dining experience that gives its patrons a break from the donut chains that typically run the market. However, unlike its popular counterparts, Ike and Jane provides unique donut toppings such as Lucky Charms or Pistachios. The menu includes a wide variety of choices, from numerous donut flavors, to breakfast sandwiches, to soups and salads.

- What we’ve learned from Ideal Bagel Co. is that a lot can be done with a bagel. Ideal provides a casual diner experience that gives you the opportunity to grab your meal on the go or slow down and enjoy. From their extensive list of shmears (cream cheeses) and types of bagels to their assortment of bagel breakfast sandwiches, it’s hard to find something you don’t want to eat at Ideal.
- Independent Baking Co.
- Independent Baking Company is a quaint local bakery located in Five Points. Opened in 2013, Independent provides freshly baked bread daily: upon walking into the storefront, you’re able to see the entire bread-making process behind the counter. Swing by Independent for breakfast if you’re looking for a tasty pastry, such as their sweet morning rolls or chocolate croissants. They also provide made to order coffee, a perfect pair with any option on the menu.
